The emerging field of Spiritual Ecology is a primary focus of our work. BMC offers author events, retreats, and community projects rooted in the values of spiritual ecology including stewardship, inter-connectedness, reverence for nature, and service. This program is inspired by the groundbreaking book Spiritual Ecology: The Cry of the Earth and the Spiritual Ecology Fellowship program, and we define spiritual ecology according to the principles and values they’ve developed: that ecological renewal, sustainability, and right action depend on our examining our underlying attitudes and beliefs about the earth, recognizing our responsibility for the planet, and cultivating spiritual awareness.
We believe it is imperative to support a younger generation of activists and stewards by connecting them to the inspiration of nature and spirit through retreats and site visits around the Bay Area. Our goal is also to document spiritual ecology best practices used in Bay Area elementary, middle schools, and high schools, selecting programs and projects that can inspire and be replicated by educational, non-profit, and faith-based institutions.
